There’s no denying it’s cold outside in Canada this winter! And once again, our family spends these cold days and nights in hockey arenas, with no wind chill or snow falling. My youngest son Sam, who is 7, has just participated in his first away tournament. And just to keep things interesting, he has decided to be a goalie (much to his mother’s dismay). Sam is a super small goalie, covering only about 4 square feet of the 24 square foot net. Teaching him how to keep the small round black object out of the net has been both interesting and surprisingly rewarding. In this recent tournament, Sam’s team made it to the final game. With less than 1.5 seconds on the clock, that small black object found its way into the net that my little Sam was protecting. The other team won….what a life lesson! There can’t always be 2 winners. At least in sport someone has to lose for someone to win.
