proud Dad & hockey Coach momentWhat Hats do you Wear? I am uncovering the roles that I play in life that require me to wear multiple hats. I coach my son’s hockey team, I have for years. On the bench, I am Cade’s coach. I always wear my Dad hat when I am with my kids BUT in order to keep the boundary lines clear, Cade refers to me as coach. This creates a unified atmosphere. NO one gets preferential treatment. Incidentally, while wearing the coaching hat in January, our team won the Atom Woolwich Cup in Elmira! The Picture above was a proud Dad & Coach moment to complete his Hat Trick in the final game!!

In business, I am becoming increasingly aware of the many hats I wear. Being that Brentwood is a family business, I am not only the CEO but also an owner, a partner, a son, a brother, and a husband to the other Brentwood staff. These lines can easily become blurred at times. We are all learning the importance of wearing our unique hats in work situations and then removing those hats when meeting as family. When we can clearly define the role we are playing and we stick to wearing that hat, productivity flows and business runs smoothly. I’d have to say, just being aware of these hats, has improved Brentwood. I am so grateful that my family is committed to working alongside me in this adventure!
