Habit of Persistence

habit of persistence running every day with my son

Have you developed the habit of persistence? According to Napoleon Hill there are Four Keys to persistence.

In order to persist at something you will require:

  1. A definite purpose backed by a burning desire for its fulfillment
  2. A definite plan expressed in continuous action
  3. A mind closed tightly against all negative and discouraging influences
  4. A friendly alliance with one or more persons who will encourage you to follow through with both plan and purpose

Today, the day I am writing this article, marks day 266 of running every day since November 11th. My 15 year old, hormone charged, I have my whole life ahead of me, I can do anything son challenged me to what seemed doable but is it really sustainable? “Let’s run everyday and the first one to not run will lose the challenge.” I can definitely tell you that this challenge is growing my persistence habits as I have a lot of competition in me but the burning desire has grown everyday to complete 365 days of running. Now, I must say I am proud of myself that I have run over 500 km just by simply persisting & keeping the habit of running daily. It’s a real challenge when you are exhausted, falling asleep on the couch and your alliance partner wakes you to ask if you have run today. Thanks son for holding me accountable but also for giving me a burning desire to fulfill and follow through daily on this new yet stretching challenge, which is crucial to me being able to continue running. I can only hope my new habit is spilling over into other areas of my life. It definitely has increased my courage, capability and my confidence with running. I am also seeing cardio benefits and it’s a great testament to creating and sticking with new habits, while challenging others on what’s possible in this life.
