Time is the most precious resource we don’t get back – Personal Column – Aug 2013

Summer inspires the artistic side of my brain. I recently went to hear a prolific German drummer and clinician, Benny Greb. He was brilliant, expressive, articulate, dynamic and memorable. I learned more about life when I thought I was just learning about drumming. He said there are 3 areas to focus on “1. What you play 2. How you play 3. Why you play.” Aren’t these the 3 big focuses of life? Practice is called practice for a reason; sometimes we need to change our expectations of our self when we are practicing. Don’t take for granted what’s always there. “You should feel like a beginner when you are trying something new. New things feel awkward and new.” I had to ask myself “how often do I avoid those feelings?” The final lesson to remember in life and especially this summer, “Time is the most precious resource we don’t get back.”
