The Science Behind Goal Achievement: Your Success Mechanism

How to achieve successOriginally posted by Doug Dane at Dougdane.com

Every day I study the science behind goal achievement and the laws of nature that govern my results. I exercise my mental muscles – it beats going to the gym and it doesn’t hurt as much. Haha!

I love studying this stuff and teaching it to others!

I’ve been reading Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz as I prepare for my next workshop in Guelph. It’s such a great book! In it, the author says, “Man is not a machine, but man has a machine that he uses.”

You have a built-in goal seeking mechanism and it automatically provides you with the ways and means to hit any target you set.

Now when I heard that, I didn’t believe it but I then realized it was my lack of understanding. Our only problem in achieving our goals is ignorance or a lack of understanding, or what I call your awareness.

ig·no·rance

noun: ignorance

lack of knowledge or information.

See, you are built for success! God does not put out inferior products.

You can do anything you want, you can become anybody you want and you can have anything you want. Your only problem is you’re not aware of how to do it.

Here’s how it works!

Your Success Mechanism operates much like a GPS. You provide the target or destination and your mind will provide the directions. When you set a goal, your job is stay focused on the goal, not on the methodology. We’ve been taught that we need to know “How” to accomplish a goal so when we get an idea of something we want to do and we don’t know how to do it, we think that we cant do it.

You don’t need to know HOW!

Now, when you jump in your car and enter your destination, you don’t question whether the machine works or not, you just get in and drive. That’s because you know how the machine works and you can count on it to get you where you want to go.

Well, you have a machine that can direct you to your goal but there are some things you need to understand.

  1. Humans are goal oriented. Besides our survival instincts we also have emotional needs. We have a desire to grow. Your must have goals, otherwise you wander through life aimlessly and unfulfilled. If you provide a goal, your mind will automatically direct you to the target or discover the target.
  2. Your mind is tele-logical which it means it will automatically course correct to find its way to the target. It’s not your job to worry about the methodology or the directions. Your mind will provide the turn-by-turn as you need it.
  3. Much a like torpedo, you fail your way to the target. The only way to figure out “How” to hit your goal is by failing. Like a GPS, when you hit a roadblock or an accident, you can course-correct by making a turn and the machine will automatically re-calculate the route.
  4. And lastly, your job is to keep your eye on the goal and not jam up the machine. How do we jam it? With doubts, worries and forcing it to work. You must trust the mechanism.

When you develop your awareness and understand how your success mechanism operates you will have the confidence it will work for you.
